Thank you for reaching out regarding either a pit bull in need or looking to adopt a pit bull. However, our branch of Long Way Home does not take in pit bull breeds. You would need to speak to our sister branch called Long Way Home Pit Bull Rescue, as they specialize in the breed. Please contact them directly at www.LWHBullies.org. Thank you!

If you have found a stray animal, thank you for stepping up to help this pet in need! While our organization is not set up to accept stray animals, here are some ways you can get help:

✅ Take them to the nearest vet clinic, shelter, or pet store, so they can scan the pet for a microchip. Hopefully, there is an owner listed!

✅ Post on the NextDoor app, as most strays are picked up close to home.

✅ Most counties/cities have Lost and Found social media pages, where you can post for help.

✅ Call your local shelter and file a "found report", in the event the owner comes in looking for them.

✅ If you have tried all these, or can no longer keep the pet, please contact your local animal control, so the pet does not have to be turned loose.

Our organization's mission statement is not set up to accept owner surrenders or stray animals. It is very rare that we are able to help with surrendered pets, as we exist primarily to help pets facing imminent or potential euthanasia in shelters and facilities. However, we have LOTS of great resources listed below for you. 🙂

** If you are looking for help, specifically with a pit bull type dog, please contact our Pit Bull branch directly at www.LWHBullies.org, as they handle all bully dog requests. Thank you!

➡️ While we are not set up to accept owner surrenders, once in a blue moon, we may have a spot available. Those spots are almost always reserved for small breed seniors, as this is our area of specialization. If you feel your pet may fit this criteria, please message us below.

➡️ We are likely unable to accept your pet, however, there are MANY other rescue organizations that can! We suggest going to Petfinder, and searching for your breed of pet using the zip code finder. Then, contact the organization that has that pet, and ask for help.

➡️ List your pet on a third party rehoming site. We are including a list for you here, that is easy to find/use, and that we know is a source of legitimate, safe, options for you to find a home for your pet. This way, unlike when you surrender to a shelter or rescue, you have complete control over what family gets your pet. We suggest the following groups:

🌟 Adopt-a-Pet

🌟 Home to Home

🌟 SPCA

If you still have questions, please choose the topic "Other" to send us a direct message.

If you are checking to see if a pet is still available for adoption, needing more information about an animal, or wanting to see more photos of a pet, please check our Available Animals tab. It has the most current info.

Thank you!

Please note that our primary mission is to help pets already in the shelter systems. It is VERY rare that we accept owner surrenders, but when we do, we prioritize senior small breed dogs, as that is our specialty. If you wish to continue asking to surrender a pet, please make sure to include the pet's breed, age, gender, and size, along with information on the pet's current medical needs. This does not guarantee we will accept your pet. Please attach a photo below.

Thank you!

If you are officially ready to begin the adoption journey, please visit our Adopt tab. It has information on our available animals, out of state adoptions, our adoption process and fees, and the application to adopt. Please note: We are a foster based program, so we do not have a public facility or hours to visit. All animals live in our homes.

Thank you!

No problem! However, please keep in mind that all of our fosters are volunteers with full time jobs and family obligations. If we asked them to set aside time for every single person casually interested in their foster, they wouldn't be able to foster. 🙂

So, we reserve meet-and-greets for serious inquiries only, once you have an approved Adoption Application on file. If you are just wanting to generally know about the pet's personality, we can certainly answer those questions by email!

Thank you!
Yes, we do out-of-state adoptions! In fact, we do them a lot. 🙂 You still must go through the same vetting process, but we can certainly adopt to non-Texas homes. You will be speaking a lot with the foster parent and transport coordinator, but thanks to technology, home visits and meet-and-greets are still possible.

For more information, please check out our Transport tab regarding how we are able to transport to all 50 states (and sometimes Canada).

Thank you!

Checking up on your adoption application? Following up on a previous email? Please note: we are a volunteer organization, comprised of fosters with full time jobs and family obligations.

While we do our best to respond to every email, application, text, private message, instant message, direct message, post, and comment, we just may not be able to respond to everyone. Additionally, some pets may have an exceptional amount of applications, that keep us from having the time to contact every family.

On the Adoption tab and your Adoption Application, we made sure to remind everyone that, because we may often get an overwhelming number of applications on an animal, we may not get through them all. If we have any questions, or your home is chosen, we will email you. Please make sure to check your spam folder. 😊

We promise to do the best we can, but if your home is chosen for adoption, we will be contacting you directly. Thank you for understanding!
