New England Lab Rescue Foster Application

Thank you so much for your interest in fostering for New England Lab Rescue (NELR)!

To start, foster parents pick up the fosters in various locations depending upon transport arrival on Saturdays, under normal circumstances; in an abnormal circumstance (i.e. the dog being returned by the adopter), the foster team will be in touch with the time and location. The NELR foster team performs the majority of communication through email, so checking email regularly is very welcomed and required. Please be aware that things in the rescue world may change at the drop of a hat, so flexibility is appreciated.

Also, please contact your personal references and your veterinarian to give them a heads up that a NELR volunteer will be calling them to ask for a reference. Most Veterinarian offices need permission from their patients before releasing information to a third party.

If after reading this you still want to foster please fill out the application below, and check your email within 24-48 hours of applying.

Thank you so much for your desire to foster a lab in need!

Foster Contract:

I attest that the information provided on this application is true and accurate to the best of my knowledge. I understand that completion and submission of this application does not guarantee that I will foster a dog from NE Lab Rescue.

I hereby permit New England Lab Rescue to contact my Veterinarian(s) and Landlord, if applicable.I understand that there is always an adjustment period for any foster dog coming into my home. The average time a dog spends in a foster home is two (2) to five (5) weeks.

I understand that NELR cannot be held responsible for the actions, behaviors and/or medical condition of all of the dogs in its rescue. I agree to assume the risks implicit in working with dogs who may have been abandoned, beaten, or otherwise mistreated or abused, or who may suffer from an illness, condition or disease. Although NELR evaluates dogs prior to accepting them into its rescue, they cannot guarantee the temperament of any of the dogs since most of their histories are unknown.

I understand my foster must be kept on a leash AT ALL TIMES when in an unfenced or unenclosed area - even when hiking, or just walking from my house to the car. All rescues are prone to being escape artists, especially in a new environment or when left alone. They may bolt out of an open front door. I will be aware, be careful, and always have a tight grasp on my foster dog's leash.

I understand that NELR reserves the right to check on the welfare of this dog on my premises, and to reclaim both possession and ownership. By submitting this application, you agree and understand that the dog is the property of New England Lab Rescue, and NELR reserves the right to reclaim the dog at any time and for any reason. In the event that I do not comply with the foster guidelines and NE Lab Rescue reclaims any foster dog from me, I waive claim to trespasser. I understand that NELR must approve all adoption applications, so I will not promise anyone that they can adopt my foster. I also agree that if, at any time in the future, I cannot continue on in the foster program for ANY reason, I will not give away, sell or euthanize the dog. I will contact the rescue coordinator for arrangements to be made to move the dog(s) into other foster homes with NELR .

I understand that NELR will be responsible for any medical expenses that may occur while the dog is in my foster care. If a veterinary visit is necessary, I must contact my foster coordinator and keep a copy of all receipts for reimbursement. I will need to complete a foster expense report and submit it with the original detailed receipt for reimbursement. I agree to provide an appropriate crate for my foster dog, and to provide the dog with a good quality food in amounts appropriate for his/her age and size (2xs a day for adults, and 3xs a day for puppies.)

I agree to fully and completely release NELR, its officers, volunteers, agents, employees, contractors and representatives, from any liability of any kind whatsoever arising from any health or temperament issues the Dog may have or may develop, and/or from any and all claims relating to my fostering of the Dog. I agree to indemnify and hold harmless NELR, its officers, volunteers, agents, employees, contractors and representatives from any and all losses, fines, claims or damages, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, arising out of or relating to my fostering the Dog, including any claims for injury or damage to persons or property caused by the Dog.
